Located directly adjacent to the Japanese embassy, the new building on Tiergartenstrasse adds an additional component to Berlin's embassy district. All the embassy functions are arranged around a central atrium, including ambassador and employee offices, the visa department, conference rooms, a cafeteria, and apartments. The shape of the facade with its external sun protection evokes ocean waves and the traditional Indonesian sailing ship, both of which identify the island nation.
