David Kohn Architects is one of the UK’s leading practices. The role:
DKA wishes to appoint a Senior Architect / Projects Manager with the opportunity to become a Practice Associate. The role carries significant responsibilities but also an opportunity for someone wanting to become pivotal to, and a stakeholder in, the continuing development of a successful practice. The role will allow the practice to continue to grow whilst ensuring the highest quality standards in design, professional service and built output. It will also support David Kohn’s continuing design, research and business leadership. The successful candidate will spend six months as a senior architect, familiarising him or herself with the practice, before potentially graduating to an Associate role.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing teams delivering all projects to an exceptionally high standard.
- Work closely with the Director to ensure a coherent design approach is applied across all projects and stages.
- Provide training to less experienced staff, particularly in project management and construction detailing.
- Manage the office administrator and new business manager, overseeing new work acquisition, recruitment and resourcing.
- Foster a low-stress work culture within which team members are encouraged to stretch their individual capacities.
Experience and knowledge:
- Riba Part 3 qualified with at least three years post-qualification experience.
- Experience as project architect on at least one award-winning projects over £2M in construction value and all Riba stages.
- Experience of leading a team of architectural assistants setting resourcing levels, project and stage milestones, monitoring progress.
- Managerial experience including some or all of office / operations/ HR / finance/ business development roles.
Skill and abilities:
- Design: Excellent design skills and ability to communicate design quickly and clearly. Excellent construction detailing skills.
- Organisation and Planning: Facility with budgets, time schedules and able to focus on key priorities.
- Team and business management: Able to motivate, support and direct teams of both architectural staff and office administrators.
- Attention to Detail: Able to quickly identify details, in construction information, correspondence, office organization, that require correction. Able to instruct colleagues in same and maintain high quality standards.
- Ability to hire: Contributes to the sourcing, selection and hiring of excellent candidates to join the company.
- Ability to develop people: Coaches people in their current roles to improve performance and prepares them for future roles.
- Attitude: Positive, persistent, proactive, calm – able to pursue the practice and project goals with a relaxed can-do attitude.

This position will appeal to Interior Designers who have worked on Shopping Malls and other large scale Retail projects. Based in Hamburg, you will have the opportunity to work on their global projects.
