We are looking for an experienced Architect to join our established and growing team of 30.
Based in Cirencester, you will be required to meet our clients’ highest expectations and will take into account context, client preference, planning constraints and budget in all of your actions. You will be running projects up to £5m in value with minimal supervision, and you will work to support Project Directors on larger schemes.
You will be an ARB registered Architect with at least three years of post qualification experience and a portfolio that includes one-off residential projects. In the last year, Yiangou Architects has won awards from both the RIBA and the Georgian Group, demonstrating our ability to excel in both traditional and contemporary designs. The successful candidates will be passionate about exceeding client expectations and able to demonstrate design flair and interest across all architectural contexts.
Reporting to the Project Directors, you will lead and co-ordinate small teams in the studio and on site, typically across several simultaneous projects. You will administer building contracts and be responsible for project Health and Safety as required. You will be expected to work to financial budgets and deliver to deadlines.
Within your role, you will be involved in preparing and presenting design proposals to the client and responsible for providing advice regarding the practicality and progress of Client’s project. You will produce drawings at all stages from concept sketches through to detailed construction information. This work will usually be done as part of a project team that includes colleagues and third parties, so you will need to be able to negotiate and work collaboratively with contractors and other consultants. Site supervision and the administration of building contracts will also be important facets of your role.
Our ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the Cotswold vernacular and experience of conservation and Listed buildings.
Essential skills:
- Good communicator, confident dealing with a wide range of clients.
- Excellent design skills, either developing others' conceptual ideas or designs from scratch.
- Good overall knowledge of the UK Building Regulations.
- Able to deal with complete working drawing packages up to tender, including CDM, statutory requirements, NBS, prelims and contract documentation.
- Full proficiency with 2D CAD (professional Vectorworks training will be provided).
- Able to deal firmly and fairly with contractors and clients.
- Understanding of planning law, listed buildings, conservation areas etc.
- Good team player with an ability to work well with others and manage project teams effectively.
- Good freehand skills and the ability to communicate ideas by hand quickly and easily.
- Able to negotiate in a non adversarial manner.
- An ability to deliver results and to see jobs through.
