A high-end interior design firm in New York is looking for an interior designer with at least 5 years experience to work closely with Junior Designers, Senior Designers and Design Directors to provide development, production support and co-ordination throughout the project delivery process as a member of the design team. A dependable, energetic individual with a “can-do” attitude and exceptional attention to detail, the Intermediate Designer is responsible for supporting the efforts of the design team to ensure the successful completion of the project. Responsibilities include:
- Involvement in all phases of the design process including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and knowledge of construction administration.
- Develops full sets of construction documents, details, renderings, FF&E selection, product/material specifications and schedules.
- Meets all deadlines for design deliverables.
- Prepares required layouts, sketches and space plans required to convey design intent.
- Prepares presentation boards and materials, under direction.
- Assists with and/or prepares elements of project schematic/conceptual designs, under direction.
- Attends on-site visits and field reviews, provides direction to outside contractors and vendors, under direction of senior team members.
- Assists with selection and research of project design materials, furnishings, specifications and equipment.
- Ensures accurate meeting notes are taken and reported to team members.
- Assists with the development of technical/design solutions.
- Follows and speaks to current industry trends on space, function, lighting, finishes, furniture and equipment, etc.
- Develops innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function and are reflective of client goals and within project budget.
- Coordinates color and material palettes.
- Assists in the selection and specification of furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering and artwork.
- Estimates material requirements and preliminary costs.
- Renders conceptual design ideas and prepares 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
- Assists in the preparation of client presentations.
- Prepares, corrects and updates documents during schematic design and design development phases.
- Solicits bids and assists Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of the materials, finishes and furnishings required.
- Supports the Construction Administration phase responding to RFI’s, CO’s, and reviews shop drawings.
- May provide support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise.
Requirements:
Able to work in a team environment with good collaboration skills, the role is suited to someone who is highly presentable, intelligent and confident with an outgoing and upbeat demeanor who enjoys working in a fast paced, team oriented, deadline driven atmosphere.
Extremely detail-oriented with exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong abilities in creative problem solving are a must. Proficient in the use Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Sketch-Up the ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge of interior design principles/practices, a bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture with at least 5 years of experience.

What we're looking for: dedicated, motivated individuals looking for a hands-on work experience with as much responsibility as you can handle. Maturity and a high level of motivation are important. Many exciting new projects are on the horizon, including ones abroad, so we are looking for architects with 3 - 5 years of office experience. We are also looking for people with a fair degree of practical experience on a job site, great design and interpersonal skills, as well as a high degree of comfort in putting together drawing sets and client presentations. All candidates should have excellent communication skills and be well organized and self-motivated. An adventurous spirit and a love of design are a must, as is the ability to work in an informal design studio atmosphere. Compensation will depend upon the skill and experience level of applicants and the mix of projects in the office.
Start date: March / April 2015.
Candidates should have a working knowledge of Autocad, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and In-Design. Preference will be given to candidates who also have proficiency in 3D Studio Max, Rhino or other 3D programs, as well as people able to do scripting and animation. An interest and a passion for innovative sustainable design that intelligently blends research and practicality is key. Ability to start within two weeks, as well as written and spoken knowledge of Spanish and leed certification a strong plus.
