Award winning lighting design firm working in collaboration with prestigious architects, in various scales, types and countries, is looking for a committed and responsible junior architect / recent graduate with strong architectural design skills to join our team. Genuine interest and skills for graphic representations and visualization of design ideas including sketches and renderings are welcome.
Qualifications:
- Architects applying for this position should have 1-2 years work experience with an understanding / interest in lighting design across architectural, interior and landscape design projects.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with all project phases (SD through CA) of the architectural process.
- Experience with physical model making.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Developed skills in 3D modeling software (Revit, Rhino) a plus.
- Advanced knowledge in Adobe suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong sensibility and appreciation for design communication and eye for detail (visual and architectural).
- English fluency required. French or Chinese (Mandarin) language ability a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to problem solve and make decisions based on changing conditions.
- Time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at various stages of design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively as a member of L’Observatoire’s project team on up to 8 projects (lighting component only) from SD - CA phases. Our teams are typically 3-4 people consisting of project manager, senior lighting designer, junior lighting designer, and project design assistant/project designer (yourself).
- Participate in design work sessions to digest architectural/interior design and be involved with development of lighting concepts to reveal the aesthetic qualities of a space.
- Assist fellow lighting designers with project documentation (lighting layouts, fixture specifications, etc.) and design research to develop lighting details.
- Ideal candidate is self-motivated with the ability to work independently within the team.

To see through the design development and construction phase of an important large scale project of National significance located in the Midlands. This role will involve dealing with work on new addition and work to historic Grade II* listed buildings.
Applicants will be required to have a thorough working knowledge of conservation and traditional architecture and will need to submit evidence of this.
